One of the things that I have been most excited about on this trip...Well, actually, there are a lot of things that I have been excited about. But I have been really been looking forward to doing some smaller trips to various parts of New England. Where we stay in New Hampshire (basically the center of the state) we are only about an hour and a half/ two hours away from Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, and even, Canada. Back home I had read a book which talked about hiking Blueberry Mountain, Maine, where the hike is mild and the top and side of the mountain are full of blueberry bushes. My youngest son, Rhys, loves fruit. I mean LOVES fruit. I have memories of him as a toddler eating an entire pint of them in one sitting! So, I made a note of Blueberry Mountain thinking Rhys would really enjoy plucking fresh ones off of the bushes, and we could see a little bit of Maine. Yesterday we had hiked East Osceola, and it was also supposed to be rainy today so this gave us the perfect opportunity to do a mellow hike that wouldn't be treacherous in bad weather. Luckily for us, on our drive to Maine and back it rained hard, but when we were hiking it was only overcast- whew!
From the parking area, it is about a half mile walk to the beginning of the trail.
Easy going.
Rattlesnake Pool-
Rattlesnake Pool is a very short side trip off the main trail that is worth it.
The falls are to the left and the pool has beautiful blue-green water
that this photo doesn't quite do justice.
Continuing on after the falls,
this was about as wild and crazy as the trail got.
Overall, it is a fantastic hike to do with kids
or for anyone looking for an easier hike.
We reached the top which was fairly open. There is a loop trail up there that we intended to do, but was easy to lose. It isn't well marked. We followed it probably halfway around, lost the trail, wandered a bit, and when we found the trail again, we opted to head back down instead of completing the loop.
But yes, the views were better than we anticipated.

Nick looking like a Mini-Me here!!! 💘
Don't you think?!
And the blueberries💙!
We brought a clean zip bag to carry our bounty 😊
He would have contentedly stayed on top of that mountain
picking (and eating) every single ripe blueberry if we had let him 😆
Eventually, we were able to convince him to head on back down.
When we had arrived basically to the base of the mountain,
we took the gorge path which is also very short and worth the view.
Nick also got to see a man catch a brook trout which provided some inspiration.
We quickly returned to the car, grabbed snacks and some fishing gear
and Nick decided to try his luck after having seen the man nab that brook trout.
The pond was serene.
A beaver lodge.
So peaceful.
His Happy Place.
He didn't end up catching any fish, but this little guy was adorable!
It was a great, satisfying day.
The next morning, we got to pair our "Wicked Good" chocolate milk
(You know when you're in New England when...) with
our blueberry waffles made with our foraged mountain blueberries 💙💙💙
